A flow control valve is a valve that controls and adjusts the air flowing within a pneumatic system. They are specifically used to reduce the airflow rate in an area of a pneumatic circuit which creates a slower actuator speed. They are opposite to a needle valve because they only direct the airflow in one direction, free flow in the opposite direction.
These airflow control valves are usually screwed into the exhaust valves of control drivers or control valves. They regulate the piston speed of cylinders or control the rotatory drives, which are done by restricting the air exhaust. The adjustment element of control valves helps accomplish this. There is also an integrated silencer that helps exhaust the air and reduces the noise level to a certain extent. This silencer is a shift from standard exhausts as they used to create a lot of noise while in operation. With the help of this silencer, you can have better performance through the exhausts and less noise, which gives you a peaceful environment and enjoying the convenience of them.
Directional control valves are utilized for a different purpose which directs the energy transfer system to the most suitable location at the most suitable time. Although there will be some pressure and flow rate control achieved with the use of directional control valves as they can control fluid flow.
Besides the commonly used directional control valves, some are designed for specific tasks like venting-type regulator valves, pressure regulators, and needle valves. Venting-type and pressure control valves both help control pressure, whereas the needle valves are used to control the flow within a pneumatic pressure mechanism.
Pressure regulators are effectively used to control pressure fluctuations by controlling the pressure as it is directed on an actuator or some other part of the system. To bring air pressure within the suitable pressure range, the pressure should be set at low levels to fluctuate between the range of 3 to 5 psi without changing the minimum and maximum pressure system requirements. In certain applications, these pressure regulators keep the pressure constant regardless of any changes in the pressure and flow at earlier stages.
Venting regulators work similarly to pressure regulators. However, they function as a small exhaust, allowing some air to vent or escape to help maintain a constant pressure balance.
Needle valves control the flow by restricting the amount of air that passes through the system. To restrict the air, they consist of an adjustable component that helps the actuator position when they don’t let in more air than the system can handle.
Flow rate requirement is an important factor to consider when selecting a pneumatic flow control valve for your application. The speed of the actuator depends on how fast the actuator can be filled with air at the input and then exhausted at the output.
Festo offers air control valves in various configurations, styles, and port sizes. If you are not sure which size is the most suitable for your application, consult experts or search through the web before making your purchase.
