USB to UART cable with wire end, works out of the box. I tested it with Windows 10 and Raspberry Pi. With some add-ons, I can control a wheelchair motor controller. Works fine with raspberry pi 2. I have used this as a dummy terminal via putty with the regular mini usb power supply and also using the red (+5 volt) wire connected to the gpio to power the unit. Works as advertised, which is much better for initial setup than a pi. Very satisfied with the product.
