Schmersal MZM100 Solenoid Interlock Switch
The MZM100 Safety switch from Schmersal has a solenoid interlock without a positive-linked mechanical locking mechanism. It uses an electromagnet to generate a 500-N holding force and then transmits the signal interlock locked to the safety-monitoring module. The forced-closed operating principle of the MZM100 switch offers multiple advantages. Mechanical wear becomes a thing of the past because of the absence of moving parts. The actuator and the locking mechanism are free from play and therefore neutralise undesired noises, even on machines with high vibrations. Despite the absence of play between actuator and interlock, the system tolerates large door misalignments. The smooth surfaces of actuator and interlock furthermore provide for the simplicity of cleaning.
An integrated sensor, functioning according to the patented pulse-echo operating principle from Schmersal, detects and monitors the position of the safety guard. Multiple safety switchgear can be monitored by means of one safety-monitoring module, without detriment to the safety level, saving money and clearing space in the control cabinet.
The MZM100 fulfils the requirements of control category 4 to EN 954-1 or SIL 3 to IEC 61508 and the magnetic locking principle complies, amongst others, with EN 60947-5-1.
Because of its compact size, the MZM100 can be fitted on conventional 40 mm machine profiles. It is suitable for light safety guards on packaging and wrapping machines thanks to its insensitivity to vibration, and is ideal for use in the food-processing industry because it has no surfaces, where dust and dirt can gather.
