Linear Power Supplies

Linear power supplies are a type of electrical device designed to convert alternating current (AC) from the wall outlet into a stable direct current (DC) voltage for powering electronic circuits. Linear Power Supplies vs. Switching Power Supplies

Linear and switching power supplies convert AC current to DC by using different approaches. Linear power supplies utilise a transformer to step down the voltage, then regulate it with a component that dissipates excess power as heat. Switching supplies, on the other hand, use transistors to rapidly switch the current on and off, creating a high-frequency signal that's easier to manipulate with transformers. This allows for smaller sizes and higher efficiency but can also introduce electrical noise.
