Ball Bearings

Ball bearings, or simply bearings, incorporate a rolling element designed to carry various loads by reducing rotational friction. These bearings feature metal balls between exterior and interior rings for uninterrupted and smooth axle or motor rotation. A ball bearing offers various high-speed applications with distinct load capacities. However, roller bearings are preferred for heavier loads with double or triple rows. Ball bearings are robust with different sizes for specific applications. Additionally, these versatile rolling-element bearings are ideal.

Materials for Ball Bearings:

Ball bearings are incredibly durable and are made of high-carbon chromium steel called chrome steel. Other materials include plastic, stainless steel, and ceramics. These materials allow robust rust resistance and durability in various challenging environments.

Lubrication/Maintenance of Ball Bearings:

For high-speed and efficient applications at high temperatures, bearings’ proper maintenance and lubrication are crucial. It is recommended to grease or oil the bearing for its extended life span and load applications for smooth and viable rotational functions.

How Many Types of Ball Bearings Are There?

Ball bearings come in sealed or open versions with different sizes and diameters internally and externally. Some of the bearing types include:

  • Deep Groove Bearings – Designed for heavy load capacity environments with excellent designs.
  • Linear Ball Bearings – capable of rotating in each direction.
  • Angular Contact Bearings – ideal for combined axial and radial loads.
  • Thrust Ball Bearings – Suitable for axial loads.
  • Miniature Ball Bearings – Highly preferred for compact applications.
  • Self-Aligning Ball Bearings – Capable of handling misalignments in long shafts.
  • Shielded Bearings – As the name suggests, these bearings are shielded with rubber to protect them from contaminants.
  • Ceramic Bearings – Extremely stronger than steel bearings with excellent corrosion, magnetism, and electrical resistance properties. These bearings provide maintenance-free lubrication with high RPM spinning and low-friction attributes.

Typical Applications of Ball Bearings:

Metal ball bearings provide various specific applications in objects with moving parts, such as in the following:

  • Agriculture
  • Mining Industry
  • Manufacturing Industry
  • Aerospace Engineering
  • Machinery
  • Gearboxes
  • Transportation
  • Cycling, and
  • Centrifugal Pumps.

Furthermore, ball bearings are also effectively used in daily household applications, such as:

  • Ovens
  • Refrigerators
  • Drying Machines
  • Generators
  • Door Hinges
  • Roller Stakes
  • Ceiling Fans.

RS PRO Sealed Deep Groove Ball Bearing With C3 Clearance The RS PRO 6002-2RS/C3 15X32X9mm single row, deep groove ball bearing, offers versatility and overall high performance. The sealed ball bearing is fitted with synthetic rubber seals to prevent dirt and other items entering the bearing. It is primarily intended for use where the inner ring rotates. Other Information: Why choose a sealed ball bearing? sealed ball bearing offer reliability as they reduce the risk of dust and dirt entering the ball bearing mechanism. They also help to preserve the lubricant within the bearing and keep it running smoother, for longer. Why choose a single row deep groove ball bearing? This type of ball bearing is often the most popular because of its versatility. They are ideal for high speeds and can handle a good radial load capacity, all will very little maintenance required. “Deep Groove” refers to the race (the groove where the balls rest). There is, therefore, larger space between the inner and outer rings, than the diameter of the ball. This leaves space for the rubber seals. Features and Benefits • Shielded • Good radial load capacity • Ideal for high speeds • Long operating life Applications • Food and Beverage Industry • Pharmaceutical • Medical Industry • Engines and Pumps • Medical Industry • Printing Certifications • EN certified

Radial Insert Ball Bearings with Inner Ring INA from Schaeffler radial insert ball bearings have the inner ring located on the shaft with two grub screws offset by 120°. This location method is suitable for bearing arrangements with a constant direction of rotation or, under low speed and load, for an alternating direction of rotation. The grub screws are self-retaining and have a fine pitch thread with cup point for secure location of the bearings. The GSH series bearings have an adapter sleeve and lock nut providing concentric, force locking location of the inner ring on the shaft. The result is higher speeds and quieter running than other radial bearings. The R seal is two zinc-coated sheet steel washers extended outwards and angled downwards with intermediate NBR part and radially preloaded seal lip. Better protection against mechanical damage. Substantial grease reservoir due to the space between the extended and angled sheet steel washers. Used in radial insert ball bearings with inner ring extended on both sides. The RSR seal is single-piece, zinc-coated sheet steel washer with moulded, radially preloaded NBR seal lip. Used in radial insert ball bearings with integral adapter sleeve. Features and Benefits • Lower operating costs • Reduced maintenance due to improved lubrication • Lower heat generation • Less noise • Shaft diameters from 12mm to 90 mm (GYE..KRR-B) • Shaft diameters from 20 mm to 50 mm (GSH..-2RSR-B) • Adapter sleeve (GSH..-2RSR-B series) Suffixes KRR - Lip seals on both sides (R type seal) ...

Ball Screw Support Bearings - BSF Series The BSF series of bearings is equivalent to the BSN range of bearings, with an extended outer ring, with bolt holes for easy direct mounting. Relubrication holes in outside surface and face of the outer ring allow for relubrication during operation if necessary. The holes are closed off with set screws. An extraction groove on the outer surface of the outer ring aids removal of the bearing. BSF-DT Series The matched DT pairs are essentially the same as the individual bearings. The two individual bearings have been matched together in the paired version. Some sizes also have extra fixing holes in the outer diameter. Both bearings have a V-shaped mark on the outer diameter to ensure that they are arranged correctly. Features and Benefits •60° Contact angle enabling the bearings to support large axial forces •Double row to support axial force in two directions •Contact lip seal provides excellent sealing with low friction and heat generation •Greased for life (under normal operating conditions) •Easy mounting directly onto machinery •Extraction groove to aid with removal •Set screws Product Application Information Ideal for use in machine tools.
