Monolithic crystals or monolithic crystal filters are complete frequency-selective filters that are constructed on a single plate of a piezoelectric crystal. Piezoelectric is the type of crystal in which certain deformation has taken place when voltage is applied to its surface. At Enrgtech, you will find a great variety of monolithic crystal products to meet your requirements just as needed.
How Do They Work?
Monolithic crystal filter is based on the MCF technology and they supply a small and effective bandpass filter that is used in applications such as radio base stations and other high-performance radio receivers. Quartz crystals can also be used for such purposes but monolithic crystals are considered better in performance and can also be produced in smaller sizes. They use technology that is akin to that of semiconductors and is constructed on a single quartz crystal wafer that provides high levels of performance.
Construction
A crystal filter is usually made from a number of discrete crystals. However, for such designs, a number of individual crystals are also needed. Often the number require is six or eight to get the required performance. In this way, they become big and need careful assembly and design.
Monolithic crystal is different in the sense that it does not have a number of discrete crystals but instead, it used a single crystal element through MCF technology along with two electrodes plated onto the surface. This can be achieved in two ways that are:
- Identical electrodes are the first method to have two identical electrodes one at the top and the other at the bottom.
- A single common ground electrode in which a single electrode can be plated on the surface performing as common ground electrodes at input and output.
