Machine Guarding Accessories

Machine guarding accessories are the complete set of extra parts or components designed to provide adequate protection to the operators and prevent equipment from damage. These accessories and machine guarding are the first-line defense for the safety of workers. They protect in terms of physical barriers, for instance, a cage guard for protection against sparks or hazardous substances. 

Types of machines guarding accessories:

As the types of equipment being secured might vary greatly, machine guarding and accessories span a wide range. However, some common categories of accessories are given below:

• locks and keys (for extra security)
• labelling accessories
• guards (with a range of sizes and shapes)
• installation accessories for assisting the guards in setting up.

Typical Uses of machine guarding accessories:

• The primary purpose of machine guarding is to protect the operator and others in the work area from hazards that may arise during machine operation. These include the risk of problems such as pinch points, cornering points, reciprocating, traversing, and splinters and sparks.
• Some guards also provide safety to workers from shavings and flying shards of metal produced by working machines.
• The machine guarding helps prevent cuts, lacerations, bumps, and abrasions. Without this protection, injuries can result in severe illness or death.

Note: Even if you think you can work faster without a guard on a machine, there is no good reason to remove it from your machine. The guards are there to protect you!
